In light of recent events, the City of Vienna is extending its assistance for Ukrainian researchers through an additional funding scheme of €250,000 in order to provide rapid and uncomplicated assistance to Ukrainian researchers and historians in need of support.

The VWI is happy to announce, that as one of four institutions selected by the City of Vienna, the institute will take part and contribute to this important initiative. Having thankfully received €35,000 in funding, the VWI is now offering short-term emergency support fellowships ranging from one up to a maximum of four months aimed at PhD students as well as established scholars in the field(s) of Holocaust and Genocide Studies or Jewish Studies.

The aim of the Ukraine Emergency Call is to support Ukrainian scientists whose research was impaired or made impossible by enabling them to carry out a scientific project using the resources of the VWI in ViennaEligible candidates must currently be affiliated with a Ukrainian university and/or research institute or at least have received one or more of their academic credentials from such an institution. The fellowship recipients are expected to spend their fellowship on site at the VWI in Vienna.

The VWI will cover the cost of living for research stays of up to a maximum of 4 months as well as the costs of a round-trip to and from Vienna (coach class airfare or 2nd class train fare). Expenses are covered following the regular VWI Fellowship Programs. Other project-related expenses or overheads cannot be covered by the Ukrainian Emergency Call.
