The Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies

The Fortunoff Video Archive contains more than 12,000 hours of video interviews with Holocaust survivors. The archive originated from a collection of 183 interviews created by the Holocaust Survivors Film Project in 1979, and today comprises over 4,400 interviews in 22 languages, recorded either at Yale University or as part of partner projects. Individual recordings can be searched for via an online catalogue.

For a long time, access to the archive was only possible on site at Yale University. Since 2017, however, the interviews can also be viewed at the VWI, following the required registration and ordering procedures. A tutorial explains the process and provides tips for advanced searching.

The Fortunoff Video Archive and the VWI have collaborated on numerous projects, including events, conferences and a joint fellowship based in Vienna.
