Holocaustbezogene Bestände der IKG Wien

Since February 2018, archival materials related to the Holocaust, antisemitism and racism from the archive of the Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) have been on loan to the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI). The purpose of this loan is to enable the scholarly cataloguing and analysis of these holdings, and to make them accessible for research and educational activities. These archival collections are of great significance to Holocaust survivors and their descendants, researchers and the interested public.

The holdings can be searched via the VWI database. The originals located in Vienna are only accessible in exceptional cases where there is a justified reason. The following sub-collections have been digitised and can be consulted at a computer workstation: Medical Consultation Office of the IKG Vienna (documents on Jewish physicians and ‘medical practitioners’) Welfare Office of the IKG Vienna, Emigration Department: emigration card index (numerical and alphabetical) from May 1938, emigration questionnaires from May 1938 to 1940, ‘Account D’ card index (foreign currency for escape), various emigration-related documents and applications for admission to the Richborough transit camp, 1939 Welfare Office of the IKG Vienna, Child Emigration: lists of child transports to England, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, the USA and Sweden, and correspondence relating to child emigration Population Department of the IKG Vienna: ‘Register of Jews living in Vienna as of 15 September 1939’, house lists 1941–1943 (incomplete), card index of search inquiries from the American Joint Distribution Committee and death certificates of Shanghai refugees issued by the Jewish Community (1954 to 1956) Files related to the Holocaust, including deportation lists (copies)
