Gesetzliche Grundlagen

To access archival materials of the VWI, visitors must complete a user registration form once per calendar year, either in the reading room or digitally prior to the visit. The data collected in this user agreement (personal details, research topic and intended use) will be processed by the Archive of the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI), Rabensteig 3, 1010 Vienna. The legal basis for processing users’ personal data is Article 6(1), sentence 1(b) of the GDPR. The archival management system also records the archival materials provided for consultation. By signing this agreement, users undertake to respect copyright, personal rights and the legitimate interests of third parties when using archival materials consulted at the VWI, whether analogue or digital. They also agree to comply with all applicable legal provisions relating to civil status, data protection and archive regulations, as they currently stand.

This applies both to visitors and their clients. The provisions of the Federal Archives Act of 1999 apply. Permission from the VWI Archive is required to access archival materials subject to statutory protection periods.
